The 3 1/2" microfloppy diskette is enclosed in a protective shell of rigid plastic. The top half of the shell contains a |read/write aperture| and the bottom a |spindle hub|. The protective shell is very important as the recording media within is susceptible to damage by moisture, heat, electromagnetic fields, dust, fingerprints, and cold.
